Duchess Ravenwaves Name In Other Languages

In Swedish I thought the Duchess was called
grevinnan Korplock (Countess Ravenwaves) or grevinnan Korpsvans (Countess Raventail). Linnzy has corrected me though, as you can see below! Mixing up countess vs duchess apparently Eye-wink All Swedish characters weren't translated either, so it can be a weird mix of English and Swedish overall.

From the Characters section of this page I see that Duchess Ravenwaves were called in..

Dutch: Gravin Ravenzwart
French: Duchesse Noir-de-Jais
German: Gräfin Rabenstolz (gräfin = count, rabe = raven, stolz = pride)
Italian: Duchessa Neronda
Spanish: Duquesa Maraña
Swedish: Hertiginnan Ravenwaves (hertiginna = duchess)

Letters for her German and Spanish name unfortunately been distorted, what should it say there? Seems it does not mean "Duchess" in German though, rather "Countess" according to Alarda.
And are the other translations spot on directly translated or what do they mean?
The Dutch name gives me the feeling it means "ravenblack".

Are we missing out on any languages?

Duchess

Well, her german title says Gräfin' But I get the fealing that this homepage has a problem with the lettering, as there are no umlauts in english ..... But you can write them in two ways. The later of wich is to use the two letters wich make up the umlaut. wich is AE in her case. So you can Write it like this : G-R-A-E-F-I-N. I hope the page swollows it that way. Laughing out loud
But 'Rabenstolz' is still correct.

Well. In German 'Graefin' is actually a countess. Dutchess would be 'Herzogin' in German. To give the diverence:
A count (Graf) is usually elected directly by the king, usually fo or some special service, where as the Duke (Herzog) is a type of noble born, infirior only to the royal family.

I hope this helps. Laughing out loud

Re: Duchess

It could be it was correctly titled from the start, as I do have the ä letter on my keyboard, but sometime it seems all "odd" letters turned into silly signs on this website for some reason, maybe database related :/

I've tried to edit the post now!

EDIT: Oh, it seems I asked you about it before as well Laughing out loud

Ravenwaves name

Nonono...in Sweden they simply called her "Hertiginnan Ravenwaves" (Duchess Ravenwaves) , but most of the times, they just said "Ravenwaves", they never translated her or the other girls names. I got all three of the videotapes and also two comic-books.

But they did find swedish names for the Comb Gnomes; "Snagg and Tovi", don't remember the last one and then we got "Hårtuss" as is Hairball, Silkymane was translated right of as "Silkesman".......some pixies got swedish names, some didn't...but this topic was about The Duchess, sorry I got a little carried away Sticking out tongue

Re: Duchess Ravenwaves Name

hehe, guess it was me thinking it simply felt more cool calling her that then Eye-wink
Needed to know how to introduce myself in Swedish when I dress up as her, although Korplock works too, in a way..

And quite alright about going slightly off-topic, but we still stayed in the name area Smiling

What comic books

You gonna dress up like her?

You gonna dress up like her? Cool!

Well, yes it works if one absolutely wants to translate it. Oh the comic books they are more like thin comic albums, Features one or two comic stories, one of them I have tell us how Lady got Silkymane and another lets us know about Goldenwaves and her friends (Um that's her name right?) There are also some short story on two pages (not comic, just text with a picture) amd some coloring pages, oh yeah there was also sme kind of info-page in each comic-book that featured one of the characters.

I think, I'm not entirely sure, but I think there was four albums of LLL in sweden, I found mine on the swedish auction site "Tradera"....

Re: You gonna dress up like her?

Yup, that's the plan. I started on a costume some years ago, but so much that got in the way for each Halloween I planned to finish it for. You can find info and link to images in this thread: "Ever got inspired and made a doll of LLL yourself?"

(I OT-ed Alarda's thread of sorts Eye-wink

Hmm yes, I do recall at least one more Swedish cover.. with Maiden Fairhair chasing some fireball in the woods!
I think the one a friend got me before, he also found on Tradera after me pointing him there *grins*
